not what we agreed combines music, sign language poetry, songs in two languages - Lithuanian spoken and Sign languages, video projection art, educational and scientific activities.
The main aim of the project is to empower Deaf people to create, and not to 'adapt' artistic content for Deaf people, but to achieve an equal partnership. Therefore, the project started to use Lithuanian Sign Language as a source of creativity and the autobiographical experiences of the community as the narratives of the project's dramaturgy.
not what we agreed also aims to introduce Deaf culture to hearing people not through the prism of disability, but through the prism of cultural uniqueness. During the performance, the hearing part of the audience will be able to experience sound the way the deaf experience it - through touch and vibration.
The project was initiated in 2020 by Lithuanian actor and artist Dominykas Vaitiekūnas, who decided to explore the difference between the words "hearing" and "listening" in his work.
Since its beginning, the team has already carried out artistic and technological research, organised several songwriting workshops for the Deaf and staged several live performances. The team has now been joined by professional deaf artists from Finland and Sweden, who are actively developing new content and integrating it into immersive performances.
